22/09/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill over the weekend of 16th and 17th September 2023 for the final weekend of the 2023 motorsport season on the Yorkshire hill. The Greenwood Cup and Mike Wilson Hillclimb meetings held under mainly cloudy conditions on both days.

Summer Championship Hillclimb meeting at Harewood Hill 2023

29/08/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on Sunday 27th August 2023 for the Summer Championship Hillclimb meeting as part of the Harewood Championship.

Joining the Harewood regulars, was motorcycle competitors on both two and three wheels, along with competitors for the Longton Northern Speed Championship and the HRCR Moran Motorhomes Speed Challenge, with a couple of TR’s also adding to a packed entry list.

The event got underway at 9:00 under very cloudy and changeable conditions with even a little bit of sun but the sun did not last. Two practice runs followed by a timed run were completed before the lunch break. It was during the timed run that the rain came down, making the track conditions very slippy.

Another three timed runs were completed during the afternoon but thankfully in much drier conditions. Despite the weather and track conditions a number of drivers managed to set new PB’s times (personal best times).

2021 and 2022 Harewood Champion Adam Riley driving the Honda S2000, of Karl Jackson, now takes the overall lead of the Harewood Championship even though the car had lost a couple of gears during the event.

David Leach driving his Lotus Elise S1, drops down to second place while Rob Spedding driving his Formula Ford Vector TF93K, drops down to third (before dropped scores are taken into account), so it is very tight going into the final two rounds of the 2023 season in September.

Jake Bellerby driving his dads OMS 2000, set the FTD. With Paul Gibson driving his OMS3000, and Simon Green driving his Westfield Duratec posted the third fastest time.

While the fastest bike was the KTM of Paul Jarrett bike and the fastest sidecar was the husband and wife team, Simon and Jane Foster riding the Honda F2.

Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Hillclimb 2023

10/08/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill over the weekend of 5th and 6th August 2023 for the Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Hillclimb meetings.

Photo left Ford Escort MkII driven by Stuart Stelling

The Yorkshire Speed Hillclimb got underway at 9.00 on Saturday morning under some very dark clouds with a few spits and spots of rain but all around the hill, throughout the day you could see the rain. This was much better than the whether forecast which had forecast rain all day, though the rain finally arrived during the fourth run.

A large group of Caterham's competing in the Caterham and Lotus 7 Club Speed Championship along with a number of drivers from the Bugatti Owners Club Championship (though no Bugatti cars took place) joined the Harewood regulars for the two days of track action.

With two practice runs and a timed run completed before the lunch break, and a further three timed runs in the afternoon. It is the timed runs which are used for the Championship scores.

Sunday’s Montague Burton Hillclimb got underway with much better conditions on the track and the sun was even out but that didn’t last too long and the clouds rolled in for the rest of the day, though unlike yesterday it did not rain.

Two practice runs and a timed run was completed before the lunch break followed by three more timed runs in the afternoon.

David Leach driving his Lotus Elise S1 car #119 leap frogs to the top of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship and now leads from Rob Spedding driving his Formula Ford Vector TF93K car#169 by 0.24 points.

With Jimmy Harris driving the family Van Diemen RF85 car #168 in third place. Jimmy shares the car with his father Paul.

Vintage Motorsport Festival held on 18th June 2023 at Cadwell Park Circuit.

20/06/2023

JCB Photography was at Cadwell Park Circuit on 18th June 2023. The Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) organised the Vintage Motorsport Festival for the Seaman Trophy Race Meeting.
The Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) was formed in 1934 and promotes motorsport events for Pre-war and Historic cars and a Club for enthusiasts of Pre-war motoring.

Photo above Bugatti Type 51 driven by Tim Dutton, during Race 3.

With Practice taking part during the morning and then after the lunch break ten races. All races would either be fifteen minutes in length or seven laps apart from race seven which was twenty minutes for the Historic Seaman and Flockhart Trophies Race, which was for Vintage and pre-1966 Racing cars. Weather was fine and dry until two or three laps into Race ten when it started raining and just got heavier, along with some thunder and lighting.

Classic & Vintage and Jim Thomson Hillclimb 3rd & 4th June 2023

08/06/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill over the weekend of 3rd & 4th June 2023. The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised two different events. The first on Saturday was the Classic & Vintage Hillclimb, for the Vintage and Sports Car Club (VSCC).
The VSCC was formed in 1934 and has provided a platform for people to enjoy pre war cars both competitively via a number of different motorsports events and socially.
Photo above: Riley TT Sprite driven by Michael James.

Saturday's hillclimb started under cloudy conditions but thankfully the sun came out and was with us for the rest of the day. With only the two Practice runs completed before the lunch break and two timed runs in the afternoon. This was all down to these vintage classic cars taking longer to get up the hill, the top speed been well down against a modern car and also a number of red flags. Any cars competing on the hill, which got a red flag would get a re-run, though the car that had caused the red flag would be given a failed run.

On Sunday the Jim Thomson Hillclimb (part of the Harewood Championship) took to the hill.
Under some nice blue sky the first practice run got underway but during the second practice run, white clouds started to roll in, then followed by more grey looking cloudys which stayed with us for the rest of the day but at least it did not rain.

Both practices runs and a timed run was completed before the lunch break. In the afternoon up to three more timed runs were available to those Championship rules would allow more than two timed runs during an event.

Rob Spedding driving his Formula Ford Vector TF93k, car #215 currently leads the Harewood Championship from David Leach driving his Lotus Elise, car#180 and Daniel Hollis driving his Caterham 7 is now in third place, car #174.

Harewood regulars posting the the fastest times of the day up the hill. Jake Bellerby driving his dads OMS2000M car #209, from John Prickett driving his Radical PR6 car #202, with Tracey Wise driving her Jedi car #208.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire Centre for the opportunity to be trackside and not forgetting all the Marshals, Medical, Rescue teams including Extractor Rescue without which the event could not take part.

May Harewood Open and British Hillclimb Championship

10/05/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th May 2023. The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised the May Harewood Open and British Hillclimb Championship. Saturday’s meeting was part of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship and on Sunday it was the first visit of the season for the British Hillclimb Championship, though most of the big names from this championship were at the Yorkshire hill for the two days. Also joining these competitors were drivers from the Ferrari Owners Club taking part in the Ferrari Speed Championship. Photo, above left shows the Westfield of Henry Moorhouse.

Saturday’s event for the May Harewood Championship Hillclimb meeting got under way about 20 minutes later than the normal 9am start, due to fog and the Marshals not been able to see clearly from post to post. Once the fog did clear the rest of the day was mostly overcast, until just after the start of the third timed runs, when it started to drizzle and then all of a sudden the rain did come down. So a large number of drivers did not take their third timed runs.

Due to the delayed start, drivers only had two practice runs before the lunch break. With the timed runs taking place in the afternoon. It is these timed runs which are used for the Harewood Championship scores. Rob Spedding driving his Vector TF93K, car #145, leads the Harewood Championship from David Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk, car#138 with David Leach driving his Lotus Elise S1, car#86 in third.

Sunday’s British Championship Hillclimb.
The morning practice runs got under way on time but there was still a little mist about but nothing like yesterdays. With some light showers, leaving the track a little slippy.

After the normal two practice runs the event was a little ahead of time so some of the non British Championship competitors took to the track for their first timed run before the lunch break. The sun came out for the afternoon timed runs.

The first timed run for round five of the British Championship got underway before a top twelve run off for Championship points. This would be repeated for Round six of the Championship.

Scott Moran set a new record for the British Hillclimb Championship, he is the first driver to score over 4000 championship points.

Mist welcomes competitors for the start of the 2023 season at Harewood Hill

11/04/2023

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on Sunday 9th April 2023. The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised the Spring National Hillclimb meeting as part of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship.

Photo left shows Lee Griffiths driving his OMS 28.

The forecast was for some nice early Yorkshire Spring sunshine but unfortunately mist welcomed competitors for the start of the 2023 season at Harewood Hillclimb. Though thankfully it did not delay the start. The sun did come out during the lunch break but by the time competitors took to the track for the second of three timed runs it had gone back in again.

During the morning we got though two practice runs and a timed run before the lunch break.

It is the timed runs which are used for the Championship scores.

Also competing this weekend was a number of competitors from the MG Car Club.

Riponian Stages Rally 2023

14/02/2023

JCB Photography was in Cropton Forest for Special Stages 2 and 5 on Sunday 12th February 2023 for the Riponian Stages Rally. The events sponsor was K.T Green Ltd of Poole in Wharfedale, Main dealers for Subaru, Iszu and Artic Trucks. K T Green is also a supporter of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb, which is one of the main events that JCB Photography covers. Simon Green, who also competes on the hill, was driving his McRae Series Subura Impreza, car#114 and finished 16th in the Riponian Stages Interclub Rally. See photo above left.

The event was organized by Ripon Motor Sport Club, with scrutineering, documentation and finish all taking part at the Thirsk Rural Business Centre. However so that the event would be completed in reasonable time the actual start of the event was at the Wombleton Airfield. Which was also used as the service area and was only used once, after the first loop of three stages. Competitors then repeated the three stages before the finish back at Thirsk. Road mileage was approximately 105 miles. Two-wheel drive cars were first on the road in reverse order of performance with four wheel drive cars running in seeded order behind.

The competitors tackled some of Yorkshire's finest and iconic stages. The competitive mileage was approximatley 43 stage miles in the Cropton, Gale Rigg and Wass Moor forest complexes in the North Yorkshire Moors.

The competitors tackled some of Yorkshire's finest and iconic stages. The competitive mileage was 44 miles in the Cropton, Gale Rigg and Langdale forest complexes in the North Yorkshire Moors.

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill over the weekend of 6th and 7th August 2022 for the Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Hillclimb meetings.

The Yorkshire Speed Hillclimb got underway at 9.00 on Saturday morning, under some nice blue sky but had clouded over by lunchtime break. With two practice runs and a total of four timed runs, during the day. It is the timed runs which are used for the Championship scores.

A very large group of Caterham's competing in the Lotus 7 Club Speed Championship joined the Harewood regulars for the two days of track action.

Full timing and results for the Yorkshire Speed Hillclimb can be found here:
https://barc.blob.core.windows.net/harewood/links/Final%20Results-06082022.pdf

Sunday’s Montague Burton Hillclimb got underway with a lot more sunshine than yesterday, though it still clouded over in the afternoon which reduced the track temperature. Two practice runs and a timed run was completed before the lunch break followed by three more timed runs in the afternoon.

Adam Riley driving his Honda S2000 leads the Championship. On his first timed run he was just 0.29secs off his class 1C record. Then on each of his three timed runs in the afternoon he lower the record to end with the class record set at 61.80 secs

Rob Spedding driving his Formula Ford Vector TF93K is still second from John Prickett driving his Radical PR6 is third and Terry Deere driving his Talbot Sunbeam Lotus fourth. There is only 5.11 points separating Rob from Terry Deere in fourth place, so it is very tight below Adam.

Harewood Hill new Hillclimb records

09/05/2022

May Harewood Open and British Championship Hillclimb meeting at Harewood Hill 7th and 8th May 2022.

For the first time in many years, JCB Photography was unable to attend the events. We will be back for both the Classic and Vintage Hillclimb on 4th June and the Jim Thomson Hillclimb on the 5th June.

The Sunday event was round four and five of the British Championship Hillclimb. Having watched the event live on Hillclimb.TV ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEomwQ1ezz8 )

Nicola Menzies driving the Gould GR55B, # 706 she shares with David Uren # 6 beat the Ladies Hill Record twice, first with a time of 52.98 secs on her first timed run, then on her second run with a new record of 52.03 secs.

During the mornings Practice the Hill record was broken, twice, first by Scott Moran driving a Gould GR59 in car # 4, then by Wallace Menzies Gould GR59, car #1 (photo above left) but as it was Practice unfortunately it does not count. However if the conditions remind the same or even improved during the afternoon, it could mean we would be in for an exciting afternoon of motorsport on the Yorkshire hill.

During the first Top 12 Run Off. These timed runs are for British Championship points. Matt Ryder driving the Gould GR59J, car # 708, that he shares with Will Hall car # 8 set a new Hill record of 47.39secs. Only for Scott Moran to beat that to set a time of 47.05 secs. Wallace Menzies was next on the hill and he lowered it again to 47.00secs.

Wallace Menzies was not yet done with the hill record as during the second Top 12 Run Off he lowered the Hill Record yet again to set a new time of 46.86secs.

Harewood Hillclimb 2022 Season gets under way

13/04/2022

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on Sunday 10th April 2022. The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised the Spring National Hillclimb meeting as part of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship.

With some nice early Yorkshire Spring sunshine welcoming competitors for the start of the 2022 season at Harewood Hillclimb, the Spring National event got under way after an overnight frost. Some of the Competitors comments, after the first Practice run was that the track was a little greasy. The conditions didn’t seem to improve for much of the morning as we only got though two practice runs before the lunch break, after so many red flags. However in the afternoon track conditions improved and four times runs were completed for most of the drivers.

Alan Healy Memorial Cadwell Park Stages Rally 2022

07/04/2022

JCB Photography was at Cadwell Park Circuit for the TJS Self Drive Alan Healy Memorial Cadwell Park Stages Rally held on Sunday 3rd April 2022.

The event is organized by the Border Motor Club and was the final round of the 2021/2022 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship. This is a seven round championship which started at Oulton Park back in November 2021.

Leading the Championship, in association with MSVR after round six, at Donington Park circuit was driver Barry Morris driving his Darrian T90 GTR+, Neil Roskell was second driving a Ford Fiesta R5 and Martin Hodgson, third in a Ford Escort MkII, though this was without drivers dropping any scores.

A number of Ford Escorts MkII had also entered the rally along with R5 cars from Hyundai and Ford together with many popular clubman cars, such as the Nissan Micra’s, Mazda MX5’s along with a variety of BMW's, and Peugeot's.

The rally was also part of the following Championships: Alpha Concrete ANEMMC Stage Rally, Clubman Motorsport EMAMC Stage Rally, MSN Michelin Cup, MSN Protyre Challenge and the MSN MX5 class Championships.

Using the Cadwell Park Circuit, near Louth in the Lincolnshire Wold’s, the venue is know as the “Mini Nurburgring”. The main track is normally narrow, fast and flowing but for the Rallying it includes extra chicanes and would also include a number of merges and split points along the route, this could result in two rally cars been on the same part of the track at the same time, which is quite unusual for rally crews in the open forestry commission stages.

The sun was out but was cloudy and dry throughout the day, with the first car starting Special Stage one at 09:00 and other competitors would be flagged away in 30 seconds intervals. The last car was due to finish just before 18:00. With around 45 stages miles over nine Special Stages using some of the access roads around the track and the Circuit itself.

All five of the morning stages run before the lunch break would be in reverse direction of the normal circuit. The crews having to navigate many twists and turns in to complete a Special Stage.

The afternoon stages would including running the track in the normal direction for normal Race events but still not using the full circuit.

The winners of the TJS Self Drive Alan Healy Memorial Cadwell Park Stages Rally 2022 were Barry Morris and co-driver Tom Hutchings in the Darrian T90 GTR+ (Pictured above left)
2nd was the Ford Fiesta R5 driven by John Griffiths and co-driver Nigel Wetton.
3rd was Neil Roskell and co-driver Andrew Roughead also driving a Ford Fiesta R5.

The 2021/2022 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Champion is Neil Roskell driving the Ford Fiesta R5, taking the championship by just one point from Barry Morris driving the Darrian T90 GTR+ and Martin Hodgson driving his Ford Escort MkII in third place.

2022 season kicks off at Harewood Hillclimb

22/03/2022

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on Sunday 20th March 2022. The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised a Practice Day event before the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship starts on 10th April.

With some nice early Yorkshire Spring sunshine welcoming competitors for the start of the 2022 season at Harewood Hillclimb, though when the clouds covered the sun the temperature would drop and you knew about it. The day would thankfully stay dry so at least the competitors didn’t have to worry about a damp or wet track.

A small number of competitors managed up to ten runs during the day of action, making it very good value for drivers and those on the hillside watching the action.

Donington Rally 13th March 2022

16/03/2022

JCB Photography was at Donington Park Circuit for the Northside Truck and Van Donington Stages Rally held on Sunday 13th March 2022. This was the first Rallying event that we had done since the Christmas Stages Rally at Croft Circuit in 2019.

The event is organized by the Dukeries Motor Club and was round six of a seven round championship which started at Oulton Park in November 2021 and with the final round taking place at Cadwell Park on 3rd April 2022 for the Alan Healy Memorial Rally.

Leading the 2021/2022 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship after round five which took place at the Snetterton circuit was driver David Henderson with his co-driver Sion Cunniff. Neil Roskell and co-driver Andrew Roughead are second, with John Griffiths and co-driver for this event Nigel Wetton all in Ford Fiesta R5‘s along with a number of other class R5 cars from different manufacturers together with many popular clubman cars, such as the Ford Escort MkII’s, Nissan Micra’s, Mazda MX5 along with a variety of BMW's, and Peugeot's.

The rally was also part of the following Championships: Alpha Concrete ANEMMC Stage Rally, Clubman Motorsport EMAMC Stage Rally, Cotswold MSGCC Stage Rally, Dukeries MC, Michelin Cup and the Protyre Challenge.

Using the Donington Park Circuit, with around 50 stages miles over seven Special Stages all within the confines of the Circuit but also using some of the access roads around the track and off road sections on the infield.

The crews would have to complete a couple of laps of the track with chicanes and would also include a number of merges and split points along the route, this could result in two rally cars been on the same part of the track at the same time, which is quite unusual for rally crews in the open forestry commission stages.

During the early morning stages the track was damp meaning some tricky conditions for the competitors in the first couple of stages but with some early Spring sunshine it soon dried out and meant that the drivers would need to select slick tyres. The afternoon stages would including running the track in reverse to the normal Race events.

The winners of the 2022 Northside Truck and Van Donington Rally were David Henderson and co-driver Sion Cunniff driving a Ford Fiesta R5. (Pictured above left)

A very wet weekend at Harewood Hillclimb.

06/07/2021

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill on 3rd & 4th July 2021, for what turned out to be a very wet weekend. Round five of the Harewood Championship took place on the Saturday & what was planned for two rounds of the British Championship Hillclimb on the Sunday but due to the very heavy thundery storm, which lasted for about an hour. An inspection of the track took place and the meeting was terminated on safety grounds at 16.10 due to the adverse weather conditions. So only round fifteen of the British Championship Hillclimb was completed.

Both events organized by the BARC Yorkshire Centre. Also joining the action on the Sunday were competitors from the Porsche Club GB Speed & Hillclimb Championship.

As in all the events run at Harewood Hillclimb in 2021, both events would be run under the latest guidelines from both HM Government and Motorsport UK, therefore restrictions on the number of competitors that would be allowed to take part, the number of mechanic’s and no spectators. Though a live stream of the British Championship Hillclimb would take place on the Sunday.

Revised Dates for the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship issued by the BTRDA 07/03/2021.

07/03/2021

Following on from the recent UK Government and subsequent Motorsport UK announcements confirming that Motorsport can resume in the UK from Monday 29th March, the BTRDA Rallycross Championship have therefore
been forced to issue a revised 2021 calendar.

The new guidance unfortunately means that the event planned for Round 1 on Sunday 28th March at Blyton can no longer take place. The good news is that in conjunction with the MDA (Minicross Drivers Association), the
BTRDA have been able to utilise Sunday 3rd October at Blyton as a replacement event.

This means that the 2021 calendar remains at 6 rounds and will now commence at the ‘Home of Rallycross’, Lydden Hill, on Saturday 8th May.

The Full calendar can be found below:
? Round 1 Saturday 8th May Lydden Hill, Kent
? Round 2 Sunday 27th June Blyton Circuit, Lincolnshire
? Round 3 Saturday 7th August Pembrey Circuit, South Wales (Clubman 4x4 Round 1)
? Round 4 Sunday 8th August Pembrey Circuit, South Wales (Clubman 4x4 Round 2)
? Round 5 Sunday 3rd October Blyton Circuit, Lincolnshire
? Round 6 Sunday 24th October Knockhill Race Circuit, Scotland (Clubman 4x4 Round 3)

Motorsport UK confirms motorsport will restart in England from 29 March

25/02/2021

On Tuesday 23 February 2021 Motorsport UK confirmed that events will restart in England from 29th March 2021.

Press Release from Motorsport UK follows:

Motorsport UK is pleased to announce that organised Permitted motorsport can resume in England with effect from 29 March, subject to local restrictions and in accordance with its own Restart Guidance.

This confirmation follows the announcement on 22 February by Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the third lockdown imposed on 4 January will be lifted, and formally organised outdoor sports – for adults and under 18s – can also restart but should be compliant with guidance issued by national governing bodies.

As the applicable governing body for the sport, Motorsport UK will now begin granting Permits for all disciplines, and applications are invited in the usual way.

Motorsport UK will resume the sport in accordance with its Restart protocols, which have guided the safe resumption of motorsport through the lifting of the two previous lockdowns. Updated guidance relevant to the latest restart will be available on MotorsportUK.org in due course.

Motorsport UK guidance in relation to Exemptions and Elite Sport still applies.

The governing body acknowledges the target of late spring for allowing spectators on a limited basis and will follow those developments in order to keep its stakeholders informed.

Motorsport UK CEO, Hugh Chambers, commented: “We are extremely grateful to government for providing the opportunity for motorsport to resume in England from 29 March. This will be very welcome news for our community, which extends from professional drivers and teams, through to the grass roots of the sport with tens of thousands of enthusiasts. Collectively they fuel an industry employing 41,000 people and generating over £10 billion for the economy, so this is a vital step in securing the UK’s future as leaders in motorsport around the world.

“Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before we can announce similarly positive news from the other home nations. Clearly strict protocols still apply, as our sport needs to play its part in supporting the NHS and wider frontline community in keeping infection rates under control, and our Restart Guidance has enabled us to accomplish that objective on two previous occasions. I would like to thank the Motorsport UK community for their support during lockdown, and for their spirit and fortitude in keeping the sport together for when this announcement came. We now look forward to getting motorsport up and running at the end of March.”

Harewood Hillclimb March Practice Day. Cancelled

03/02/2021

Update from : Harewood Speed Hillclimb and Driving Academy

Full details in the 2021 regulations which will be available shortly on the Harewood website.
We are hoping to open entries for our first event in early March.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Motorsport UK suspends all non-elite motorsport

03/11/2020

Motorsport UK has consulted on the implications for motorsport in England with the Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in respect of the plan to enter a four-week national lockdown on Thursday 5th November.

The governing body confirms that following DCMS guidance it must suspend all non-elite motorsport until 2nd December. Selected elite events officially recognised by the DCMS, which include the British Touring Car Championship, will be permitted to continue. Which now means that after only four events, all at Harewood Hillclimb, the 2020 motorsport season for JCB Photography is over.

Acespeed Motorsport & September Sunday Shootout Hillclimb 2020

23/09/2020

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hill for the BARC Yorkshire Centre Acespeed Motorsport & September Sunday Shootout Hillclimb events. This was the first and last double header event of the 2020 season over the weekend of the 19/20th September.

Due to the on going pandemic and the increase in cases, leading to the introduction of the rule of six by HM Government. Motorsport UK had issued instructions to all competitors along with anyone else that was invited to the event, would now have to wear face coverings in the paddock area and other areas if not able to keep two metres apart.

Plus all the other previous restrictions would remain in place so the event would be run behind closed doors, limited to the number of competitors that would be allowed to take part, with each driver only able to have one mechanic or helper and no spectators on the Yorkshire hill.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire centre for the opportunity to cover the weekends events again.

We will make further announcements about our plans for the remainder of the season based on our experience of running this first event, but we are hopeful of running further events. Harewood Speed Hillclimb 2020. Update on the Motorsport UK British Hillclimb Championship.

17/05/2020

A message from the BARC Yorkshire Centre Chairman Tim Wilson.

POSTPONEMENT OF HAREWOOD EVENT
SUNDAY 5TH JULY

Whilst there is still a possibility that motorsport may be able to resume in July, BARC Yorkshire Centre has taken the difficult decision to postpone the event planned to take place on Sunday 5th July. This event was a round of the Motorsport UK British Hillclimb Championship. The event on Saturday 4th July is under consideration and we will announce a decision on that soon.

We are in the process of considering how we can resume hillclimbing at Harewood, based on the latest guidance from Government, Motorsport UK and our support agencies, and are hopeful of being able to announce a revised calendar for the rest of this season within the next few weeks.

It is inevitable that we will have to make adjustments to how we run our events and it is on this basis that we have decided at this early stage to postpone the BHC event. We hope to be able to host this championship later in the season.

We will keep you updated and look forward to seeing you all as soon as we are able.
Stay safe.

This move provides clear guidance to event organisers, venues, competitors, officials and volunteer marshals of the role that Motorsport UK must play in supporting the broader UK public health agenda.

Riponian Stages Rally 2020

06/02/2020

The event organisers of the Riponian Stages Rally, which was due to take part this Sunday 9th February 2020 have issued the following statement:

With heavy rain and severe gales with speeds in excess of 50 mph forecast for North Yorkshire on Sunday 9th February, acting on guidance from Motorsport UK and Forestry England the organisers of the Riponian Rally have reluctantly taken the decision, on the grounds of safety, to cancel the event.

Where winds are in excess of 47mph Forestry England closes the forest to public access. The organisers felt that they would be putting the safety of Spectators, Competitors and Marshals at risk if they ignored this guidance.

The organisers are looking for a suitable alternative date. In the meantime they would like to thank everybody involved in all pre-event organisation as well as all competitors who have supported the event by entering.

Christmas Stages Rally Results

18/12/2019

A number of local drivers took part in last Sundays Christmas Stages Rally including Kevin Procter (Ford Fiesta WRC, Tony Bardy (Ford Focus WRC), Dave and Drew Bellerby (BMW Mini Cooper S) and Paul and Jessica Swift (Ford Escort MkII) to name just a few.

With the entry list including many of the popular clubman machines from the Ford Escort (including a MkI, RS Cosworth and loads of MkII’s) to the modern Fiesta WRC, R2 and R5’s. Also a number of Subaru Impreza's, Mitsubishi Evo's, Vauxhall Nova’s and Corsa’s with various Peugeot's filling the entry of 80 cars.

With temperatures in single figures and a cold wind the track would be greasy. Even though the winter sun did manage to come out for a short while, but of course at this time of the year it would be low, making for some slightly tricky conditions for the competitors.

The winners of the Christmas Stages Rally were driver Frank Bird and Co-driver Jack Morton in a Ford Focus WRC. (Pictured above left) Sixty six cars finished the event and the results can be found here: https://www.rallies.info/res.php?e=320

JCB Photography was at Harewood Hillclimb over the weekend of 14th and 15th September 2019 for the Greenwood Cup and Mike Wilson Hillclimb meetings. The weekend was the last for the 2019 season. With both the Harewood Speed Hillclimb and the Fast Time of the Day Championships going down to the wire. Organized by the British Automobile Racing Club, Yorkshire Centre (BARC).

Saturday morning was cold and very cloudy to greet the regular Harewood competitors and joining them were assorted MG’s and Alpine Renault cars for both days. The sun did finally manage to break though the clouds during the afternoon.

Sunday was very cloudy and the sun never really got out but at least the rain held off enabling all competitors to have a final run up the hill in 2019, in similar cool track conditions. Joining most of yesterdays competitors would be an assortment of Jaguar cars.

The 2018 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Deryck Jones, driving his Peugeot 205 Gti car number 70 retains the Championship from Jonathan Mounsey Mitsubishi Evo VI car number 93. Tracey Wise, Lotus Elise, car number 122 moves up to third with Bob Bellerby, Sylva Riot, car number 128 in fourth.

Though Sunday’s weather was much cooler, on track and in some of the cars, the temperatures were rising for both of the Championships. Deryck Jones spun at the first corner Clarke’s on his first timed run, handing the advantage to Jonathan Mounsey, only for him to spin going into Orchard on his first timed run before the lunch break. This was getting exciting.

During the second time runs Deryck posted a time of 64.64 seconds but on Jonathan’s second run the engine let go between Orchard and Farmhouse. Resulting in a long break while the Marshals dealt with all the oil on the racing line and Recovery crews removed the car while trying not to get any more oil onto the track.

Meanwhile seven or eight cars had been waiting patiently ready to take their timed runs and were escorted up the hill before been allowed to take-up positions back at the start. With a warning going out to all drivers waiting in the paddock that dressed oil was on the racing line.

In the Harewood FTD Championship Ben Tranter got FTD on both days to take the Championship. Ben driving the OMS 2000M, car number 145 won from Ed Carter, Force PT car number 143.David Tatham, OMS Hornet car number 144 managed to claim 3rd from Rob Spedding, OMS 2000M car number 845 dropped down to fourth place after both him and Ben Tranter only managing one timed run due to issues with the OMS 2000M.

In the Harewood FTD Championship Ben Tranter, OMS 2000M, car number133 still leads from Ed Carter, Force PT car number 131, with Rob Spedding, OMS 2000M car number 833 in third. Rob shares the car with Ben. Though we will need to bear in mind that dropped scores will need to be taken into account when we head into the last two rounds of the season. Which take place over the weekend of the 14th and 15th September for the final weekend of the 2019 season.

The great long heat wave came to an end with very heavy rain on Saturday and was much the same on the Sunday for race day the rain had started before practice and continued until well after the lunch break. With a strong wind blowing the rain about. Though once it did stop, race after race the track was getting quicker and quicker. But during the various class finals the black rain clouds were blown in and once again it was raining.

In the Supercar class local driver Kevin Procter (Ford Fiesta) was on poll for the final but after a poor start, finished second ahead of Mark Higgins driving the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 RX in third.

Julian Godfrey (Mitsubishi Mirage photo above) won the final and takes over the lead of the MSA British Rallycross Championship by one point from Ollie O'Donovan who was leading the championship coming into Croft but after braking the front right suspension during the final. Spring National Hillclimb at Harewood cancelled.

15/04/2018

After a site inspection earlier in the week, the BARC Yorkshire Centre had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event due to the recent wet weather which has made a lot of the car parking areas unusable, whilst the paddock and track areas are in reasonable conditon, the packing areas for the car parks is far too wet. We were one of the many vehicles that got stuck in the car park after the Practice Day in March and more rain has fallen since. Hopefully the event can be arranged later in the year.
